Preliminary Task
The 180 degree rule is when you film a conversation from 3 points of a specific area in a semi circle. This is so it doesn't look like the actors are changing positions in the the clip and a correct perspective is kept throughout the scene. MW
The first clip is of the 180 degree rule done incorrectly. We used camera D, as shown in the image, above along with camera C. This is not how a conversation should be shot because if a camera goes over the 180 degree, both people from the conversation would be on the same side. MW
In the second clip it shows the 180 degree rule done correctly. We made sure the camera stayed on the same side throughout or filming. If you look at the image above, we used mainly cameras C and B to film the conversation between the two characters using over the shoulder shots. MW

The Exchange

Before :
Due to the fact we weren't meant to edit the project at all you can see the before and after mistakes during certain shots, this was bad as it took away from the reality of the scene and made the final product look quite silly. Additionally, the sound effect accompanying the knife flying through the air is also very unprofessional as it again takes away from the reality of the scene, this makes the final product look very rough and poorly filmed. The sound is also a major problem as the microphone was sensitive to the wind during film which doesn't transfer well into a finished product as the sound goes from quiet to painfully loud. MW |
After:
By adding a non-diegetic soundtrack we were able to sync up certain shots with the music to create a more atmospheric feel to the short. Additionally by syncing up to the music we were able to shorten the end of certain clips so only the intended parts of what we recorded made it into the final product, compared to our unedited version where we have the beginning and ends of clips which feature our crew talking which takes away from the reality of the scene. 10 Shot Horror
The 10 shots we need to include for this task were:
360 degree Shot - This shot is effective as it shows the audience the space which the victim is trapped in.
Off Kilter Shot - This shot is effective as it creates a sense of uncertainty and gives the entire shot an unnatural, worrying tone.
Over the Shoulder Shot of Killer - This shot is effective as it gives us the impression that we are in the reality of the scene as we can see what is happening from the perspective of the victim.
Close-Up/Extreme Close-Up on Fear - This is effective as we can clearly see the emotions the actress is portraying.
Close-Up on Weapon - This shot is effective as it draws attention to a dangerous item, something that will be used to create fear in our victim, and vus out audience.
High Angle on Victim - This shot shows the vulnerability of the victim, as by looking down on them they weak and unprotected.
Low Angle on Killer - This contrasts the previous shot and focuses on the killer. This shows their dominance as by using a high angle shot it's shows that they are towering over the victim.
How to Stab Without Hurting - This shot is effective as when it was used in 'Psycho' it means no practical effects had to be used, due to a low budget, meaning this shot can imply the image of our victim being stabbed herself.
Point of View Swap Between Killer and Victim - This shot is effective as it shows that the distance between the killer and victim is narrowing and it keeps the audience on edge as they want to see if the victim can escape, and if they can't they want to see how they are killed off.
Power of Suggestion - Similarly to what I said about the 'how to stab' shot by using suggestion it means you can imply what is happening without actually showing it on screen. In this case by not showing the stabbing in our short the audience can imagine how brutal the murder was than it could have possibly been if we recorded it using bad practical effects.

Blood Workshop
|
In this experiment we played about with making different types of blood. We used a lot of different recipes but our main recipe was peanut butter blood. We used hot water, corn starch, both smooth and crunchy peanut butter as well as red food colouring. At first we just used smooth peanut butter but it didn't look realistic, so we decided to use a bit of crunch peanut butter colouring to make the mixture more sticky and consistent. When we first added to much peanut butter so the mixture became a thick gluey mess but eventually after adding more water it turned it back into a more realistic consistency. MW
